Weev and Belfast City Council to Address Leading Sustainability Summit

Leading electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure firm and charge point operator Weev has joined the lineup for this year’s Sustain Exchange summit taking place later this month.

The company’s CEO Philip Rainey will take to the stage to address over 350 delegates on his experience leading a ‘planet-positive scale up’.

Weev, which has joined Sustain Exchange as a sponsor alongside Belfast City Council and a number of other high-profile organisations, was founded in 2022 with a vision to supercharge EV infrastructure in Northern Ireland and beyond.

Philip said:

“It is pleasing to join Sustain Exchange this year as both a sponsor and a speaker. We look forward to meeting business and civic leaders at the event where I’m sure, as the name suggests, there will be a tremendous exchange of ideas on how we can become more sustainable as a society.

“At Weev, our journey only started last year, but already we are making significant inroads on our plans to roll out thousands of chargers across Northern Ireland and beyond in public spaces, workplaces and in people’s homes.

“The company was established to address the chronic shortage of adequate charging facilities in Northern Ireland particularly in relation to other parts of the UK.

“It is a privilege to be part of a movement that is making real positive change as we help others in the transition to electric vehicle and the road to net zero.”

Speaking alongside Weev at the launch, Lord Mayor of Belfast, Councillor Ryan Murphy, commented:

“Within Belfast City Council, we want to put climate action at the heart of what we do.

“We made a commitment to become a carbon-neutral organisation and since declaring a climate emergency in 2019 that has become a key focus. Local authorities have a major role in driving action within communities and as a Council we want to take the lead and set an example to every resident.

“We know that the climate emergency is real and taking action now is the only sensible way to combat climate change in our city.

“We want the innovation and the energy of the private sector to help us deliver our key strategic aims, such as those included within the Belfast Agenda, Bolder Vision and Resilience Strategy, drive emissions down, and help to find new solutions to complex problems.”

The hybrid leadership summit, hosted by the non-profit Management and Leadership Network (MLN), takes place online and in person at Theatre at the Mill, Newtownabbey on Tuesday 24th October.

The lineup of speakers not only includes Belfast City Council’s Climate Commissioner, Debbie Caldwell, but also globally renowned entrepreneur Sir Tim Smit KBE alongside climate author and broadcaster Colm O’Regan, sustainability and circular economy leader Jacqueline Gibson, and international Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) specialist Rachel Post.
